# Tactics

> Create your personal assistant and hand it the tactics it runs for you

**Tactics** are the hands-off work your personal assistant does for you. Where the [Agent Inbox](/home/agent-inbox)
is where you work, Tactics is where you decide what your assistant does: which tactics are on, how each one behaves,
and what your assistant is allowed to read and do.

Find it under Tactics in the sidebar. The page has two tabs, Your Tactics and Tactics Library, and
the first tab shows a band about your assistant, a grid of Built-in tactics, and a grid of Custom tactics
that starts with a New tactic tile.

## Your assistant

Everything on this page is done by one worker: a personal assistant that belongs to you inside this workspace.

### Creating it

The first time you open Tactics you see Create your assistant. Give it a name and press Create assistant.

* The name becomes its email address on Emanate's shared assistant domain, for example `rivet@hq.emanate.ai`.
The address is checked as you type (Available, or rivet is taken with a few suggestions). Use 2 to 40
  lowercase letters, numbers or hyphens.
* Right after creating it, the assistant reads your recent sent emails to learn how you write. You watch this happen
(Studying how you write…, Read 212 of your sent emails) and it ends with Added an About-you profile to
your assistant, which you can edit any time in its settings.

Once it exists, the top of the page reads This is Rivet, your personal assistant. with three controls:
Settings, Logs (everything it has done, newest first) and its address, which copies to your clipboard when
clicked.

### Its email address

You can forward, CC or email your assistant anything from day one, even before your inbox is connected. A
forwarded email gets the same treatment the Agent Inbox tactic gives new mail; a question gets an answer in the same
thread. Every brief, digest and sweep a tactic sends you comes from this address, and you can reply to any of them.
Your assistant only ever writes back to you. It never emails a customer, a prospect or a colleague.

### Assistant Settings

Settings opens a dialog with five tabs. This dialog is the one place in Tactics with explicit Save and
Cancel buttons.

| Tab | What you control |
| - | - |
| **General** | Display name, the Email address (changing it re-mints the address and the old one stops working), your Mobile number for the Daily Check-In Call, and About you / instructions: your role, tone and priorities in your own words. If the assistant drafted one from your inbox, it appears here as Suggested from your inbox to Apply or Dismiss. |
| **Context** | The three sources it may draw on: Use my inbox for context (and which of your inboxes), Use platform data (your accounts, leads, deals and sequences) and Use connected documents (files your team shared from Google Drive or OneDrive). |
| **Tools** | One switch for everything it can look up or do, grouped as Your inbox, ERP data, Workspace data, Shared documents, Web, Conversation, Activity, Memories and Contacts. A group whose source is off in Context is greyed out here. |
| **Automations** | Whether it looks for repeat work once a week and proposes tactics, and what it may look at. See [Custom Tactics](/home/custom-tactics#automations-tactics-your-assistant-proposes). |
| **Memories** | Standing instructions it always follows, everywhere it writes, and File memories: examples, pricing notes and PDFs it has read and can quote from. |

<Note>
Topics to ignore used to be set per tactic. It is now one list on your assistant, honoured by every tactic.
</Note>

## How every tactic page works

Each tile in the grid shows the tactic's name, what it does and When does it launch? with a plain-language
trigger. The switch on the tile turns it on or off without leaving the grid; clicking the tile opens its page.

Every tactic page has the same shape:

* **The switch** in the header turns it on. A tactic that works off your mailbox cannot be turned on until an inbox
is connected (Connect your inbox to turn on!).
* **Run now**, where it makes sense, does a real run immediately: Send a brief now, Send a digest now,
Scan recent mail, Run now, Send my briefing now.
* **Activity** lists every run, called a session. Open one to read What happened, a step-by-step log with the
emails it read, the lookups it made and the decision it reached, plus when it ran and what set it off. Outcomes
are badges such as Drafted, Briefed, Swept, Held, Needs you, Skipped or Failed.
* **Settings & Info** has a rail on the left. Info comes first: How it works, where it delivers, and the
details (trigger, mode, mailbox, status, last activity). The other rail items are the tactic's settings.

<Tip>
Settings save themselves. There is no Save button on a tactic page: edit a field and the band at the top reads
Saving…, then Saved. If a save fails it reads Couldn't save with a Retry link, and the page warns you before you
  leave with an unsaved change.
</Tip>

### Connecting your inbox

Ten of the fourteen built-ins read or change your mailbox and need it connected first: Agent Inbox, Per Account
Agent, The Organizer, The Archiver, Loose Ends, Deal Spotter, Email Digest, Follow-Up, Stay-in-Touch and Quote
Runner. Press Connect your inbox and choose Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft. Morning Brief,
Account Watch, Referral Follow-Ups and the Daily Check-In Call work without one.

### Shared settings

Several tactics use the same controls:

* **Send to**: your login email or your connected inbox address. It falls back to your login email if your inbox
  disconnects.
* **Send at** and Timezone: the hour a scheduled tactic runs, in your zone. The Daily Check-In Call picks a time
  to the five-minute mark.
* **Days**: Monday to Sunday pills for the tactics that run on chosen days.

## The built-in tactics

All fourteen are off until you turn them on.

| Tactic | When it runs | What it does | Needs |
| - | - | - | - |
| [Agent Inbox](/home/agent-inbox) | When an email arrives | Drafts replies to the kinds of email you choose, in your voice, into your Drafts folder | Inbox |
| [Per Account Agent](/home/tactics/per-account-agent) | When the account agent drafts for you | Files those drafts into one folder inside Drafts and tags them | Inbox (Outlook) |
| [The Organizer](/home/tactics/organizer) | When an email arrives | Files or tags every new email into your own folders, with one-click undo | Inbox |
| [The Archiver](/home/tactics/archiver) | When an email arrives | Clears the mail you never open a day or three after it lands, unless you touch it first | Inbox |
| [Daily Check-In Call](/home/tactics/daily-check-in) | Daily, at the time you pick | Calls you for five minutes, writes down what you worked and promised, texts you the recap | A phone number |
| [Loose Ends](/home/tactics/loose-ends) | Weekday evenings | Emails you the open loops you personally owe, the urgent ones on top | Inbox |
| [Deal Spotter](/home/tactics/deal-spotter) | When an email arrives | Spots buying signals and logs each one to a Spotted Deals feed | Inbox |
| [Morning Brief](/home/tactics/morning-brief) | Every morning | Emails you the day's urgent threads, watched topics, account activity and spotted deals | Nothing |
| [Email Digest](/home/tactics/email-digest) | Every evening | Summarizes the day's newsletters and inventory emails into one email | Inbox |
| [Follow-Up](/home/tactics/follow-up) | When a sent thread goes quiet | Drafts a nudge for open quotes, silent threads and post-win check-ins | Inbox |
| [Stay-in-Touch](/home/tactics/stay-in-touch) | Every Monday morning | Emails you the people you have gone quiet on, each with a check-in drafted | Inbox |
| [Referral Follow-Ups](/home/tactics/referral-follow-ups) | When a referral draft is ready | Emails you a drafted sequence and launches it only when you reply yes | Nothing |
| [Account Watch](/home/tactics/account-watch) | Weekday mornings, after account reviews | Emails you the accounts that need you and where each draft is waiting | Daily account reviews |
| [Quote Runner](/home/tactics/quote-runner) | When a quote request arrives | Turns RFQs into quotes in your ERP or CRM, staged for your approval | Inbox and an ERP or CRM |

## Tactics Library

The Tactics Library tab is a shelf shared by everyone in your workspace. When a teammate builds a
[custom tactic](/home/custom-tactics) worth copying, they share it from that tactic's page and it appears here under
From your team, with who built it and how many times it has been added.

* **Add to your tactics** copies it into your own list, turned off, so you can read it before enabling it.
* **Customize** opens it in the builder so you can change it before saving.
* A shared tactic is a snapshot. The author's later edits do not change the library copy until they choose Update
Shared Version. The author or a workspace admin can Remove from Library; copies people already added stay.

Built-in tactics are never in the library, and there are no Emanate-curated entries: everything here was built by
someone on your team.

## Admins: a teammate's Tactics

Workspace admins see a switcher beside the page title (My Tactics, or any teammate). Pick a teammate and the
whole page acts on their behalf: create their assistant, turn their tactics on or off, change settings, add a
library tactic to their list. Two things stay personal: only the teammate can connect their own inbox, and only the
author of a custom tactic can share it to the library.
