# Your assistant

> The personal assistant you create in Home: who it is, what it can read and do, how it learns, and what it never does without you

**Your assistant** is a personal AI worker that belongs to one person in one workspace. You name it, it gets its
own email address, and from then on it reads the mail you connect, drafts replies in your voice into your own
Drafts folder, runs the tactics you turn on, emails you what it finds, and can even phone you at the end of the day.
It lives in the Home section of the sidebar: you talk to it on [Agent Inbox](/home/agent-inbox) and you configure
it on [Tactics](/home/tactics/overview).

Your assistant is not Ray. Ray is the AI built into the product, the same on every page for everyone, and it works
on whatever you have in front of you when you press a button or open a chat. Your assistant is yours alone and works
while you are away. The two are compared side by side at the end of this page, and Ray has a page of its own:
[Emanate Ray](/getting-started/emanate-ray).

## Who it is

* **One per person, per workspace.** Every teammate creates their own. Yours reads your inbox, learns your voice and
follows your instructions; a colleague's does the same for them. It never reads anyone else's mail, and what it
learns from yours stays with it.
* **A name you choose.** You pick the name on the Tactics page (2 to 40 lowercase letters, numbers or hyphens). It
signs the Home chat, the emails it sends you, the cards it leaves on your Agent Inbox (Proposed by Rivet) and the
phone call (*"It's Rivet."*). These docs use Rivet as the example name.
* **An address of its own.** The name becomes an address on Emanate's assistant domain, such as
`rivet@hq.emanate.ai`. You can email, forward or CC it from day one, and every brief, digest and sweep it sends
you comes from that address, so you can reply to any of them.
* **Your voice, learned from you.** The moment you create it, it reads your recent sent mail to learn how you write
(Studying how you write…) and writes an About-you profile you can edit in its settings. It never overwrites a
profile you wrote yourself; a fresh suggestion waits for you to apply it. Every draft it writes afterwards is in
your voice, at your usual length, signed with your signature.
* **Part of your team's Emanate.** It reads the same accounts, contacts, orders and documents your workspace holds,
through the permissions you already have.

## Where you meet it

| Where | What happens there |
| - | - |
| **Agent Inbox** | The chat box talks to your assistant directly. Below it, Activity lists the replies it drafted; the rail holds what needs a decision from you, the accounts you have been talking to, the automations it has proposed and the Rundown it rebuilds every night. |
| **Your mailbox** | Its drafts appear in your Drafts folder, on the original thread with the recipients filled in. With The Organizer or The Archiver on, your inbox gets filed or tidied, with one-click undo. |
| **Its email address** | Forward an email and it gets the same treatment as new mail. Ask a question and the answer comes back in the same thread. Reply to any of its emails with a correction and it remembers. |
| **Your inbox, from its address** | Morning Brief, Email Digest, Loose Ends, Stay-in-Touch, Account Watch, Deal Spotter and every custom tactic deliver their results as an email from your assistant to you. |
| **Your phone** | The Daily Check-In Call: it calls you for a few minutes, logs what you say against the right accounts, texts you a recap and proposes follow-up actions for you to approve. |
| **Tactics** | The band at the top reads This is Rivet, your personal assistant, with Settings, Logs and its address. Every tactic's Activity tab is a log of what it did and why. |
| **Learnings** | Under Observe, the Learnings page shows what your assistant has learned from every draft you edited, lets you mark sent replies as examples of your voice, and has a Team view of what each assistant on your team has learned. |

## What it can read

You decide what it may draw on, once, in Assistant Settings, and every tactic honours it.

* **Your inbox.** The connected mailboxes you choose under Context. It never reads a mailbox you have not connected
  or been given access to.
* **Your workspace data.** Accounts, contacts, leads, deals and sequences.
* **Your ERP.** Live customers, inventory, invoices and pricing, when an ERP is connected and you allow ERP lookups.
* **Shared documents.** Price lists, specs and other files your team connected from Google Drive, OneDrive or
  SharePoint, plus your Knowledge Base.
* **The web.** When you allow it.
* **Its own memory.** Your standing instructions, the files you gave it, what it has learned from your edits, and
the Repository rules assigned to you.

Under Tools, each of these is a switch, grouped as Your inbox, ERP data, Workspace data, Shared documents, Web,
Conversation, Activity, Memories and Contacts. Turn a group off and no tactic can use it.

## What it can do

* **Read and sort your mail.** Decide which new emails deserve a reply, hold the ones from strangers if you ask,
skip newsletters and no-reply senders, and explain every skip. File or tag every new email into your own folders
(The Organizer), and clear the mail you never open a day or three after it lands (The Archiver).
* **Draft replies in your voice.** Into your Drafts folder, on the right thread, with the earlier emails, records and
files it drew on cited so you can check them. When a question belongs to someone else, the draft can hand it off to
a colleague from a list you control.
* **Look things up.** Search your email, look up ERP records, search inventory for the closest match in stock, check
what a customer last paid, answer from workspace data with real numbers, find and read shared documents, search
the web. It asks you a clarifying question instead of guessing when something is missing.
* **Make files.** Fill your spreadsheet template, add rows to it, build a document from your example, or build a
spreadsheet from what it found, and attach the result to the email it sends you.
* **Stage quotes.** Turn an RFQ into a quote in your ERP or CRM, staged for your approval (Quote Runner).
* **Email you what matters.** The day's urgent threads and spotted deals every morning, the replies you still owe
every weekday evening, the people you have gone quiet on every Monday, the accounts that need you after each
account review, the day's newsletters in one digest.
* **Call you.** Ring you at the time you set, log what you worked and promised, text you a recap and queue the
actions it heard for your approval.
* **Take Emanate actions, as proposals.** Create a segment, start a search, update a record, add someone to a
sequence. Each is proposed on the run for you to approve, unless you turn on Acts on its own for that tactic.
Anything that starts outreach, spends money or deletes something always waits for you.
* **Propose automations.** Once a week it looks at how you actually work and, when it spots repeated effort, sets
up a tactic for it, turned off, with receipts showing how it would have handled your recent mail.
* **Add the people you introduce.** Email it an introduction and it checks whether the person is already in Emanate,
then adds them as a lead, an account or an account contact, noting who introduced them.
* **Run a tactic when you ask.** Ask in chat or by email and it starts one of your enabled tactics and says so.
* **Explain itself.** Ask about any run and it reads the log and tells you what happened and why, and it can
  describe its own setup.
* **Remember.** Tell it *"always quote FOB unless asked otherwise"* and it keeps that as a standing instruction it
  follows everywhere it writes.

## What it never does without you

Your assistant writes a great deal and sends almost nothing on its own.

| It does this by itself | It waits for you |
| - | - |
| Drafts replies into your Drafts folder | Sending any of them |
| Emails you briefs, digests, sweeps and finished files from its own address | Emailing a customer, prospect or colleague. It only ever writes to you |
| Files and tidies your own inbox when you turn on The Organizer or The Archiver, with undo | Anything that cannot be undone |
| Stages a quote in your ERP or CRM | Submitting it (unless you turn on Send to your ERP without review) |
| Calls you and logs what you said | Running the actions it suggests after the call (unless you turn that on) |
| Proposes an automation | Turning it on |
| Proposes an Emanate action on a run | Approving it (unless the tactic is set to act on its own) |

<Note>
No tactic, built-in or custom, can email a customer. The furthest anything reaches is a draft in your own Drafts
folder or a quote staged for your approval. Every action is logged, and every log line opens to show what it read
and why it decided what it did.
</Note>

## How it learns, and how you steer it

There is nothing to train, but there is a lot you can teach.

* **Your edits.** Edit a draft before sending and the change appears under Knowledge on the Agent Inbox tactic.
Press Teach on the edits that show how you write and it writes more like you next time. Allow learning turns this
  off.
* **Standing instructions.** Things it always follows, everywhere it writes. The same list appears under Memories in
its settings, under Knowledge on the Agent Inbox tactic and on the Learnings page; add one in any of them, or
just tell it in chat. An instruction saved from a tactic's own thread applies to that tactic alone, marked with the
tactic's name. Each has its own switch.
* **Corrections by reply.** Reply to any email it sent you with a correction and it saves the instruction, marked
Saved from chat, on the tactic that sent it.
* **About you.** Your role, tone and priorities in your own words, under Assistant Settings → General. If it drafted
one from your inbox, it appears as Suggested from your inbox to Apply or Dismiss.
* **Topics to ignore.** One list on your assistant, honoured by every tactic.
* **Files.** Examples, pricing notes and PDFs it has read and can quote from, under File memories.
* **Rules assigned to you.** Standing sales rules from your company's Repository that were assigned to you, each with
its own switch. Company-wide rules always apply.
* **What you dismiss.** Dismiss what it surfaces and it stops surfacing that kind of thing. A kind of automation you
dismiss is not proposed again for three months.
* **The Rundown.** Hover a line in its nightly record of your book and Weigh in: Confirms, Needs correction or
Repeats another line. What you say outranks anything it worked out on its own.

## Its settings

Everything about the assistant itself lives in one dialog, Assistant Settings on the Tactics page. Each tactic's own
settings live on that tactic's page.

| Tab | What you control |
| - | - |
| **General** | Display name, the Email address, your Mobile number for the Daily Check-In Call, and About you / instructions |
| **Context** | The three sources it may draw on: Use my inbox for context (and which inboxes), Use platform data, Use connected documents |
| **Tools** | A switch for everything it can look up or do, grouped by source |
| **Automations** | Whether it looks for repeat work once a week, what it may look at, and how many proposals it may make |
| **Memories** | Standing instructions and File memories |

The full table, with defaults, is on the [Tactics](/home/tactics/overview#assistant-settings) page.

## Admins: your team's assistants

A workspace admin can open any teammate's Home or Tactics from the switcher beside the page title, and from there
create their assistant, turn tactics on or off, change settings and read their activity. Two things stay personal:
only the teammate can connect their own mailbox, and only the author of a custom tactic can share it to the library.

## Your assistant or Ray?

| | Your assistant | Emanate Ray |
| - | - | - |
| **Who it belongs to** | You, in this workspace. Each teammate has their own. | The workspace. The same Ray for everyone. |
| **Its name** | One you chose, such as Rivet | Always Ray |
| **Email address** | Yes, such as `rivet@hq.emanate.ai` | None |
| **Where it works** | Home: the Agent Inbox chat, your mailbox, your phone, the emails it sends you | On the page you are on, across Inbound, Growth, Observe and Resources |
| **Works without you** | Yes. The tactics you turn on run on their triggers. | Only the workspace agents an admin turns on, and those end in a proposal |
| **Writes as** | You, in your voice, learned from your sent mail | Your company, from Business DNA, or as you where a surface builds a voice profile |
| **Learns from** | Your edits to its drafts, your corrections, what you dismiss, the instructions you give it | Business DNA, the Knowledge Base, and the instructions on each surface |
| **Sends email** | Only to you | Never |
| **How you tell** | Its own name in the byline: Proposed by Rivet, Ask Rivet about this activity | The Ray mark, a chat titled Emanate Ray, "with Ray", "Ask Ray" |

<Tip>
A useful rule of thumb: if it happened while you were away, that was your assistant. If it happened because you
  pressed something, that was Ray.
